Rural crime patrols step up to prevent poaching and hare coursing

Last night (18 July 2024), officers from the Rural Crime Team spent some time in the south of the county patrolling hotspot areas known for fish poaching, around Salisbury.

With harvest just beginning, the team also focused their patrols in areas that have started to harvest crops, as these become prime locations to be targeted by hare coursers. The Chief Constable has made the prevention of hare coursing and the arrest of those involved a priority due to the links to organised crime.

Officers met with the farming community to offer crime prevention advice and reassurance.

If you witness hare coursing in progress you should call 999.

After the event you can report hare coursing or other rural crimes online using this link: https://www.wiltshire.police.uk/ro/report/rwc/rural/report-rural-crime/

If you cannot report online please call 101.

You can also make a report anonymously to CrimeStoppers on 0800 555111
